![]() ![]() In most MMOs, buffs and debuffs are like +5% armor or -10% attack speed. Second, buffs and debuffs are incredibly powerful. Some AoE powers will still affect you, so not all is lost. ![]() This blocks you from using a lot of healing or buffs on yourself, which will limit the viability of being a solo healer. CoH does two things that might take some getting used when coming from other MMOs. Many other support sets also have a healing ability, but are focused on other areas. There are a number of Archetypes (aka Classes, usually referred to as AT) that offer support powersets, of which healing is the primary component of 2 (Empathy and Pain Manipulation). In regards to soloing as a healer or support, in CoH those are two different questions. The Excelsior server has the highest population of Homecoming, so you'll probably have the easiest time finding groups there. If you want the most people to play with, Homecoming is the way to go. But for CoH, that hasn't been enough of an issue for me to want to stop playing. For most older games I try to get back into, nostalgia will only take me so far before things like old design and dated UI become too burdensome for me to want to deal with. Regarding the UI and age of CoH, I thought it stood up pretty well when I got back into it. In short give it a whirl- ive yet to find someone who hasnt fallen in love with the game.Įdit: playing a Defender (the more "healer" Archtype in the game) will in no way hinder your ability to play solo, defenders can be outrageously strong If you get stuck or are not sure about certain concepts ask on "Help" chat and you'll have a dozen answers within minutes (plus a few private messages from people willing to spend a few hours walking you through stuff like crafting etc)ĭont worry too much about "meta" builds or "best" builds, all builds are viable and playing your favourite concept is a much better way to enjoy the game (although i would avoid, Warshades, Peacebringers, Spiders and Widows until you have a hang of the game as they are slightly more complex to play) And you can always call for your own team. Theres always people calling for teams on the "Looking for Group" chat. Theres also no pressure on "have" to have this team composition. ![]() Teaming up is extreamly easy and most teams fill up very fast. The community is fantastic (again im only on reunion so i cant speak for other shards) helpful, fun, with almost non-existent toxicity. Tons of badges (which also function as titles) And you get 1000 characters slots so experiment to your hearts content. The world is immersive, theres alot to explore, a lot of end game suff to explore. But that was more a fluke than actual research into the servers, however Im really happy there (I play on reunion) I also started on CoH as a first time player and i was not disappointed. If you like super hero games then look no further, although the game is old its by no means outdated. If I go with a healer type role in CoH will that limit my ability to solo?ĮDIT: Thanks to all the people who replied. Side question: I usually play healer/support or DPS in other MMOs. On the flip side, I feel like I've gotten spoiled lately by newer games with more modern UI, game structure, etc., and I've sometimes had a hard time getting into older games because of it.ĭo you think City of Heroes would be a good fit for me? If I do start playing, what's a good server for someone like me? I don't have any friends who want to play, so I'd be joining by myself and either soloing or looking for random groups to join. I played the hell out of MMOs like FFXI and FFXIV and I love superhero games, so on the surface it seems like a great fit for me. I never played City of Heroes back in the day, but I was always curious about it. Feel free to point me to an existing post/guide if there is one. I searched the subreddit and Google but didn't find anything recent. First, sorry if this is a common question. ![]()
